The Workshop on Statistics and Applications 2026 (WSA 2026) will take place on Dec 4-5, 2026 at ISEG – Lisbon School of Economics and Management, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal.

Organised in honour of Professor Wenceslao González Manteiga’s 70th birthday, the workshop will bring together researchers working in statistics and its applications. The programme will cover topics including nonparametric and semiparametric statistics, functional data analysis, spatial and spatio-temporal statistics, machine learning, stochastic modelling, computational statistics, survival analysis, time series and high-dimensional data.

WSA 2026 will benefit from an excellent panel of plenary speakers:

In addition to the plenary lectures, the programme includes contributed talks, poster sessions, a mini-course and the Best Poster Awards, providing an excellent opportunity for researchers at all career stages to present their work and establish new collaborations.

A particular highlight of the workshop is the opportunity to publish extended versions of selected contributions in special issues of two leading international journals:
✅ Computational Statistics (Guest Editors: Nuno M. Brites, Rita Gaio and Manuel Febrero-Bande)
✅ Journal of Applied Statistics (Guest Editors: Nuno M. Brites, Rita Gaio, Carlos Tenreiro and Milan Stehlík)
All submitted manuscripts will undergo the journals' standard peer-review process.
