A summer school on AI-based modelling of extreme events will take place in September 2026 in Edinburgh.

event date: 2026-09-(08-11)The University of Edinburgh in collaboration with ECAS organizes Edinburgh Summer School on Generative AI for Extremes. The workshop requires no registration fees and is tailored for PhD students and early-career researches.

Building on the success of GAME 2025 in Edinburgh, the first worldwide workshop on generative AI modelling for extreme events, Edinburgh Summer School on Generative AI for Extremes is led by GLE2N (Glasgow–Edinburgh Extremes Network) and brings PhD students and early-career researchers to the interface of generative AI and extreme value theory. It is an official ECAS course (European Courses in Advanced Statistics), and there is no registration fee.

The event is chaired by Miguel de Carvalho, and will be thematically composed of four blocks: foundations & preparations, neural generative models, generative models for extremes, and frontier topics & synthesis. Materials will be made available by the instructors in due time. Other resources include selected parts of the Handbook of Statistics of Extremes and parts of the recent special issue on Bridging Heavy Tails and AI.

The summer school will take place on 8 to 11 September 2026 at JCMB (James Clerk Maxwell Building), University of Edinburgh, Peter Guthrie Tait Road, King’s Buildings, Edinburgh EH9 3FD. Lecture Theatre B will be available for lectures, and Teaching Studio 3217 will be used for practical sessions.
