ECAS has a a new leadership. Congratulations to Lígia Henriques-Rodrigues & Josip Arnerić!

event date: 2026-01-26ECAS members supported the candidacy of Lígia Henriques-Rodrigues as President and Josip Arnerić as Vice-President in the voting on 26 January 2026.

ECAS stands for European Courses in Advanced Statistics and is a non-profit organization that co-exists alongside FENStatS (see the website). On 26 January 2026 ECAS has a new leadership unanimously voted by all present representative of European national statistical societies. The new President of ECAS is Lígia Henriques-Rodrigues from Portugal and the new Vice-President is Josip Arnerić from Croatia.


Lígia Henriques-Rodrigues is an Assistant Professor in the Mathematics Department at the School of Science and Technology, University of Évora (Portugal), and a Researcher at the Center of Mathematics and Applications, Institute for Research and Advanced Training at the same institution. Previously, she was an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Lígia is currently an Elected Member of the Board of Directors of the Portuguese Statistical Society (2024–2026). She has collaborated as a Referee for several international peer-reviewed journals. Her main research interests are statistics of extremes, nonparametric statistics, and computational statistical methods, with applications in life sciences, environment, risk, insurance, and finance. She is a member of the Portuguese Statistical Society (SPE) and the Brazilian Statistical Association (ABE). She was awarded the best scientific paper by SPE in 2007. Josip Arnerić is a Full Professor in the Department of Statistics at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb (Croatia). He is also an active researcher in the fields of statistics and econometrics, with a particular focus on financial econometrics, time-series analysis, stochastic processes, and quantitative modeling. Previously, he has been involved in international academic collaboration and visiting teaching activities at several European and Asian universities. Amongst other journals, Josip serves as a Section Editor of Croatian Operational Research Review, Co-editor-in-Chief of Croatian Review of Economic, Business and Social Statistics, an Associate Editor of the Central European Journal of Operations Research.
